BOARD OF ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (BOCC) <br />GOALS — 2015 UPDATE <br />FOR DISCUSSIONS PURPOSES <br />•1 <br />GOALS/PRIORITIES <br />ONGOING EFFORTS <br />SPECIFIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS <br />reported in the State of the Environment <br />2014. <br />Planning and Inspections <br />• The Erosion Control /Storm water (EC /SW) <br />Division is delegated by the North Carolina <br />Division of Water Resources to conduct surface <br />water determinations for subjectivity to buffer <br />regulations here in Orange County. <br />• Through field visits and updates to the Orange <br />County GIS system, allow County staff to build <br />an accurate, up -to -date database of all surface <br />waters within the County. <br />• Allow County staff to add previously un- <br />mapped surface waters subject to buffer <br />regulations to the Orange County GIS system, <br />in order to further protect water quality in the <br />County as a whole. <br />• Provide an efficient alternative for Orange <br />County citizens to determine if surface waters <br />of a property in question are subject to buffer <br />regulations. <br />• Through our subdivision regulations, the <br />County encourages the preservation of <br />environmental sensitive areas by having them <br />designated as protected open space. <br />• County stream buffer regulations, requiring the <br />preservation of the natural area in and around <br />the banks of a stream, are some of the most <br />restrictive in the State and serve as a model for <br />progressive water quality management. <br />Priority 12: Implement County's <br />Solid Waste Management <br />Solid Waste Mana_eg ment <br />Environmental Responsibility goals <br />• The Solid Waste Department provides a wide <br />• County surpassed its 61% waste reduction <br />variety of convenient, effective, high - quality <br />goal achieving 64% waste reduction rate in <br />
