BOARD OF ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (BOCC) <br />GOALS — 2015 UPDATE <br />FOR DISCUSSIONS PURPOSES <br />Planning and Inspections <br />• Electronic monitoring/operation has enabled <br />Engineering to more closely match releases to <br />targets, leading to more effective management <br />of this water resource and maintenance of water <br />quality in the Eno River, especially the East <br />Fork of the Eno River to which Lake orange is <br />the sole source downstream to the confluence. <br />• The Planning Board and OUTBoard have <br />largely transitioned to paperless agendas (some <br />members request paper copies). Agendas and <br />minutes for both advisory boards are posted on <br />the Planning Department's website. <br />• Staff electronically stores and maintains <br />approved development projects. <br />• The Planning Department webpage now <br />provides links to electronic copies of <br />development projects that have either been <br />approved or are still under review. <br />• Two GIS public assistance terminals are used <br />regularly for customer service at the front <br />counter. <br />56 <br />• Laptops - ultraportable laptops <br />• Tablets - handheld technolmie <br />Planning and Inspections <br />• Orange County Engineering staff <br />completed a project to allow remote <br />operation of the release gate at Lake <br />Orange, as well as remote monitoring of <br />the lake level, the flow from the gate and <br />readings from an electronic rain gauge. <br />This has vastly improved the efficiency of <br />operation of the Lake as well as <br />significantly increasing the amount and <br />quality of data recorded and available <br />regarding day to day conditions at Lake <br />Orange. <br />The Buildings Inspections Division of the <br />Planning Department accomplished the <br />following: <br />o Transitioned from $3,500 <br />ruggedized laptops, purchased in <br />2006, to County standard Lenovo <br />laptops, saving $2,500 per unit in <br />2012. <br />o Implemented auto -email updates to <br />the public on inspection results and <br />permit approvals. <br />• Assisted with data migration <br />strategies between Permits Plus <br />(permitting software) and Patriot <br />(Land Records and Tax software) in <br />2011. <br />• Purchased a scanner to scan copies <br />
