BOARD OF ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (BOCC) <br />GOALS — 2015 UPDATE <br />FOR DISCUSSIONS PURPOSES <br />counties, towns, and other regional bodies that <br />enable community mobility for older adults. <br />• Goal 7: Promote an adequate direct care <br />workforce for an aging population and <br />opportunities for older workers. <br />Economic Development <br />• Orange County Economic Development seeks <br />to support and improve the local economy for <br />its residents through the thoughtful promotion <br />of tourism and the arts, agriculture, <br />entrepreneurial start -ups, commercial and retail <br />attraction, business retention, and the <br />recruitment of quality business partners that <br />helps diversify the Country's non - residential <br />tax base. <br />• The County seeks desirable light manufacturing <br />firms which will provide health care and related <br />benefits and pay a living wage or higher for <br />33 <br />• Submitted a grant to the NC Department of <br />Transportation and received funding for a <br />mobility manager. This position is <br />responsible to do outreach in the <br />community to assist older adults in <br />connecting with transportation services. <br />• Offer a Long Term Care Quality Services <br />award and are currently in the process of <br />offering a Long Term Care (LTC) Direct <br />Service Worker award to be given in May. <br />• Host many interns interested in the field of <br />aging. Aging Services was recognized as <br />"Outstanding in the Field" by the UNC <br />School of Social Work. Starting a new <br />clinic at the senior centers called the "One <br />Stop Shop Clinic for Community Living." <br />This is a free clinic staffed by students, <br />UNC Faculty, and our staff. It will be a <br />training ground for young aging <br />professionals. <br />Economic Development <br />• Article 46 — Economic Development <br />Funding Orange County's voters <br />successfully passed a referendum in <br />November 2011 to levy a one - quarter (1/4) <br />cent sales tax that provides additional <br />annual funding for education and economic <br />development purposes. <br />• The BOCC adopted a Resolution in <br />December 2011 authorizing the new one - <br />quarter cent sales tax. <br />• Debt service 60% - $750,000 - Economic <br />Development Districts (Eno, Hillsborough <br />
