BOARD OF ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (BOCC) <br />GOALS — 2015 UPDATE <br />FOR DISCUSSIONS PURPOSES <br />Priority 8: Examine advisory boards and <br />commissions to: (a) Ensure they are meeting <br />their missions; (b) Determine how boards <br />relate to each other and how their work can <br />best be integrated with the BOCC; (c) <br />Ensure sustainability goals; (d) Ensure fit <br />with overall County vision; and (e) <br />Recognize (and be sensitive to) <br />consistencies represented by boards, <br />commissions when framing this review <br />water supplies (i.e. ponds) to aid firefighting <br />capabilities. <br />• Planning staff is holding meetings with the <br />County Attorney's office and the Sheriff to <br />review /discuss issues associated with the <br />discharge of firearms within the County <br />• Staff provides support to the Library Director <br />with respect to the potential citing of new <br />library services including working on the <br />Southern Branch of the County library project. <br />This support has includes creation of numerous <br />maps and mapping data, attendance at various <br />meetings, preparation of development <br />applications for the project ultimately reviewed <br />and acted upon by the Town of Carrboro, <br />assisting with the creation of a development <br />agreement for the project, and providing <br />periodic updates to local elected officials on the <br />merits of the project. <br />Animal Services <br />• Advisory Board (ASAB) has worked closely <br />with staff and the County Commissioners <br />within the context of the new framework for <br />boards and commissions in Orange County <br />governance. <br />• ASAB serves as a sounding board for residents <br />and stakeholders regarding various issues and <br />concerns; <br />• Relates to the Health Board through a joint <br />appointment; and coordinates with other boards <br />such as the Agricultural Preservation Board as <br />needed as well as with the Board of County <br />Commissioners. <br />27 <br />
