BOARD OF ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (BOCC) <br />GOALS — 2015 UPDATE <br />FOR DISCUSSIONS PURPOSES <br />12 <br />GOALS/PRIORITIES <br />ONGOING EFFORTS <br />SPECIFIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS <br />• EFNEP continues to provide Nutrition <br />• The impacts of EFNEP programs resulted iii <br />Education training to Spanish and English <br />o 80% of participants eating a variety of <br />Speaking families through the Expanded Food <br />o 88% have increased knowledge of the <br />and Nutrition Education Program. <br />essentials of nutrition, <br />o 91% increased their ability to select to <br />cost, nutritious foods, <br />o 35% improved practices in food prepa <br />and safety. <br />• CES staff performed 307 teaching visits <br />with Orange County Work First and Head <br />Start /Early Head Start Program. <br />• Fairview Community Garden — CES has <br />trained 60 Extension Master Gardener <br />Volunteers who in turn have assisted in the <br />development of the Fairview Community <br />garden and provided 6,000 consultations <br />annually with county residents providing <br />them with home gardening information. <br />• Master Gardeners provide 2,800 hours of <br />service annually assisting in the delivery of <br />information on composting, soil testing, <br />plant identification and pest management. <br />• Over the last several years Master <br />Gardeners in Orange County have <br />developed four additional gardens; the <br />Bynum Garden, Friends of CORA <br />(Chatham Outreach Alliance), Carolina <br />Campus Community Garden and the Gold <br />Park Pollinator Garden in Hillsborough. <br />• Carolina Campus Community Garden is <br />run by the North Carolina Botanical <br />Gardens, supported by Orange County <br />Master Gardeners and serves the <br />
