ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: March 18, 2008
Action Agenda
Item No. q- - (~
SUBJECT: Bid Award: LPG Triple Upright Forklift
DEPARTMENT: Purchasing and Solid Waste PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
ATTACHMENT(S):
Bid Tabulation
INFORMATION CONTACT:
Pam Jones, 245-2652
Gayle Wilson, 968-2885
PURPOSE: To consider awarding a bid for a Clark Model CMP 25-LPG Triple Upright forklift for
use within .the Solid Waste/Recycling Division to G&W Equipment, Inc. of Raleigh, North
Carolina.
BACKGROUND: In 2001, the Solid Waste Management Department's Recycling Division started
an electronics recycling program. Part of this program was the construction of a building
dedicated to the management and storage of these items. There is also a loading dock located
next to the building that is utilized to load trailers with palletized materials ready for recycling.
The handling of these items is presently being done with askid-steer type vehicle that does not
allow for the safe movement or possible stacking of these materials. Currently, all the materials
that are palletized must be stored within the trailer or outside the building until such time as there
is space in an empty trailer. The purchase of the forklift will give the division the ability to stack
the palletized items on shelves within the building, while providing a much safer way to transport
and handle these items.
Orange County's requirements were advertised on the website and five vendors were solicited for
Orange County's informal bid number 1533. Three vendors submitted bids. Pursuant to the
attached bid tabulation, G&W Equipment, Inc. of Raleigh, North Carolina submitted the lowest
responsible bid that was responsive at a delivered cost of $23,513.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Total purchase price, if approved by the Board, would be $23,513.
Sufficient funds were allocated within the FY 2007-2008 Solid Waste budget to purchase the
piece of equipment outright.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board award a bid for a Clark
CMP 25-LPG Forklift at a total cost of $23,513 to G&W Equipment, Inc. of Raleigh, North
Carolina and authorize the Purchasing Director to execute the necessary paperwork.
