1 <br />2 WHEREAS, during Sheriff Pendergrass' tenure the number of sworn personnel in the <br />3 department has grown from 20 to 100 and the capacity of the jail has expanded <br />4 from 47 to 130 inmates; and, <br />5 <br />6 WHEREAS, the Sheriff has promoted the importance of training by sending his staff to classes <br />7 conducted by the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, the DEA, as well as <br />8 other training and certifying agencies to prepare his staff for the challenges of law <br />9 enforcement; and, <br />10 <br />11 WHEREAS, Sheriff Pendergrass has fostered a service - oriented approach to law enforcement <br />12 that inspires trust and confidence in the general public, as well as collaborative <br />13 relationships with other law enforcement entities; <br />14 <br />15 NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners does <br />16 hereby recognize Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass for his 32 years as Sheriff, serving the <br />17 people of Orange County and wishes him well as he embraces the benefits of life <br />18 outside public service. <br />19 <br />20 This, the 1St day of December 2014. <br />21 <br />22 A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Rich to <br />23 approve a resolution recognizing Orange County Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass. <br />24 <br />25 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />26 <br />27 Oaths of Office for Board Members <br />28 <br />29 Senator Valerie Foushee administered the oath to Commissioner -Elect Mia <br />30 Burroughs. <br />31 Commissioner Burroughs thanked the voters. <br />32 <br />33 Judge Allan Baddour administered the oath to Commissioner Barry Jacobs <br />34 Chair Jacobs thanked the people of Orange County, County staff, and his wife for the <br />35 support. <br />36 <br />37 Senator Valerie Foushee administered the oath to Commissioner Earl McKee <br />38 Commissioner McKee thanked his family members for their support, as well as the <br />39 Board members and staff of the County. <br />40 <br />41 Board Organization <br />42 <br />43 a. Election of Chair and Vice -Chair <br />44 The clerk distributed the ballots for Chair and Vice Chair. <br />45 - Election of Chair - Earl McKee - VOTE 7 -0 <br />46 - Election of Vice Chair - Bernadette Pelissier - VOTE - 4 votes for Commissioner Pelissier; 3 <br />47 votes for Commissioner Rich <br />48 <br />49 b.
