Since the principal and the physical <br /> education teacher at Cameron Park Elementary School <br /> expressed interest in doing bicycle safety education with <br /> their students, the Basics of Bicycling Project will be <br /> implemented in their school for all fourth graders this <br /> school year in the spring. There are five K-5 schools in the <br /> Orange County Schools. Of the approximately 2,850 K-...r <br /> students enrolled in our school district. Cameron Park has <br /> 660 K-5 students. The project Will target about 100 fourth <br /> graders and their parents. To implement the project, a <br /> number of steps will be taken. These strategies will include <br /> sending a parent letter and permission form home; <br /> administering a student survey on bike helmet use ana <br /> student knowledge of bicycle safety; disseminating <br /> appropriate educational information to students, parents, <br /> the PTA, the Orange County School Board and others. The <br /> Physical education teacher at Cameron Park Will teach the <br /> Basics of Bicycling curriculum tc fourth graders in <br /> cooperation with speakers from the Orange County Planning <br /> Department, the Orange County Cooperative Extension Agency, <br /> the Orange County Sheriff's Department, and the Hillsborougr, <br /> City Police Department . Media promotions will include <br /> writing_ artiCles_for__the News of Orange newspaper . and <br /> Cameron Park's school newsletter; displaying posters <br /> throughout Cameron Park about the pro3eci: distributing <br /> educational fliers at the Monday Night Live event : and <br /> sending parent notices home . <br />
