ti <br /> 6 <br /> C5570-12/95 <br /> LIBRARIAN II <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs difficult professional work in planning and implementing library services such as <br /> children's, young adult, and adult sections; managing library automation; does related work as <br /> required. Work is performed under general supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Serves as librarian for the children's and young adult divisions; <br /> Plans, develops, and implements adult programs and special event activities; <br /> Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive library automation program; <br /> Plans for division services and makes provisions for special projects; <br /> Manages and coordinates library automation systems and activities; <br /> Develops and selects the collection materials for the appropriate division of the library; <br /> Assesses staff automation training needs, and provides or coordinates the required training; <br /> Manages annual budget for the assigned library division; <br /> Develops and implements programs as assigned; <br /> Develops displays and markets the assigned library division services and programs targeted at <br /> different age groups of children, young adults, adults, schools, child care centers and <br /> organizations in the community; <br /> Develops the procedures and practices to be followed for the division services; <br /> Identifies available grants, writes grant proposals, carries out grant proposal as submitted, and <br /> reports on expenditures; <br /> Provides technical computer assistance to library staff and library patrons; <br /> Coordinates genealogy materials and oversees the family history research collection; <br /> Supervise library volunteers; Acts as liaison to the Friends of the Library Board; <br /> Works circulation desk; Participates in professional organizations; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES. SKILLS,AND ABILITIES: <br /> Comprehensive knowledge of library services in functional area and general library operations; <br /> comprehensive knowledge of reader interest levels and books and authors relevant to assigned <br /> area; comprehensive knowledge of book classification; comprehensive knowledge of specific <br /> materials collection; thorough knowledge of computer systems, hardware, software, networks, <br /> and library specific systems; thorough knowledge of library media, including online searching <br /> techniques and materials; ability to work effectively with children, adults, volunteers, employees <br /> and library patrons; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to design, <br /> plan, implement and evaluate effective programs; ability to develop and maintain an effective <br /> collection relevant to the assigned area; ability to work with a variety of automated systems. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Masters degree in library science <br /> and at least two years professional library experience. <br />
