J <br /> 5 <br /> t <br /> C5565-12/95 <br /> LIBRARIAN I <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs intermediate professional work in planning and implementing library services such as <br /> reference, video or periodical sections; does related work as required. <br /> Work is performed under general supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Serves as librarian for the reference, videos, periodicals, and/or inter library loan divisions; <br /> Develops and selects the collection materials for the appropriate division of the library; <br /> Plans for division services and makes provisions for special projects; <br /> Manages annual budget for the assigned library division; <br /> Develops and implements programs as assigned; <br /> Performs readers' advisory to patrons on appropriate materials; <br /> Develops displays and markets the assigned library division services; <br /> Develops the procedures and practices to be followed for the division services; <br /> Manages collection of highly requested materials; <br /> Works circulation desk; <br /> Participates in professional organizations; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGE& SKILLS. AND ABILITIES: <br /> Comprehensive knowledge of library operations; comprehensive knowledge of book <br /> classification; thorough knowledge of reader interest levels and books and authors relevant to <br /> assigned area; thorough knowledge of online computer searching techniques and methods; <br /> thorough knowledge of specific materials collection; ability to work effectively with patrons; <br /> ability to locate materials requested by patrons; ability to communicate effectively orally and in <br /> writing; ability to plan effective programs; ability to develop and maintain an effective collection <br /> relevant to the assigned area; ability to work with a variety of automated systems. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Masters degree in library science <br /> and at least one years professional library experience. <br />
