3 <br /> related positions(Reference Librarian and Children's Librarian)currently classified as <br /> Librarian. <br /> The classification review indicates that: <br /> - The restructured Library Assistant I and the Librarian assigned to Reference Services <br /> are comparable in responsibility, and <br /> - The restructured Library Assistant Director position and the Librarian assigned to <br /> Youth Services(formerly Children's Librarian)are comparable in responsibility. <br /> This review indicates two distinct levels of professional librarian work in the Library: <br /> - The first level includes positions that have responsibility for managing a small <br /> (approximately 1,000- 3,000 items)collection,a related budget,and limited <br /> programming. <br /> - The second level has responsibility for managing a larger(approximately 20,000 and <br /> up)collection/program area,correspondingly larger budget,ongoing programming <br /> responsibilities, and/or automation management for the library. <br /> Thus, it is recommended there be two classification levels of professional librarian in the <br /> Library. To do this, it is recommended that a new class of Librarian I at Salary Grade 65 <br /> be established and the current Librarian class at Salary Grade 67 be changed to Librarian <br /> II at that same Salary Grade. <br /> Upon approval of the recommended changes, <br /> - The Library Assistant Director position at Salary Grade 69 will be reclassified to the <br /> new class of Librarian II at Salary Grade 67. <br /> - The Librarian position managing reference will be reclassified from Librarian at <br /> Salary Grade 67 to Librarian I at Salary Grade 65. <br /> - The vacant Library Assistant I at Salary Grade 59 will be reclassified to Librarian I at <br /> Salary Grade 65. <br /> - The Librarian position managing youth services will be reassigned to the new class <br /> title of Librarian II and will remain at Salary Grade 67. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends the Board amend the Classification and Pay Plan by: <br /> - Changing the title of the class of RSVP Literacy Coordinator to ESL Coordinator, <br /> - Changing the class title of Librarian to Librarian Il,and <br /> - Adding the class of Librarian I at Salary Grade 65. <br /> FALANATLASSIMABS6.WPD <br /> December 6,1995 <br />
