The activities associated with this goal are <br /> summarized below: <br /> • January, 1987 -Rural Buffer zoning district adopted. <br /> • June, 1487 - Assembly of Governments consensus on preserving open space in Rural <br /> Buffer. <br /> • November, 1987-Rural Character Study Committee appointed. <br /> • May, 1990 - Rural Character Study Committee adopts Conceptual Guidelines for Rural <br /> Buffer. <br /> • September, 1990 - Rural Character Study Committee initiates work on Conceptual <br /> Guidelines for Rural Orange. <br /> • January, 1993 - Rural Character Study Committee completes work on Conceptual <br /> Guidelines for Rural Orange. <br /> • December, 1993-At a work session involving the governing boards of Orange County and <br /> Hillsborough,agreement is reached to establish the University Station Planning Group. <br /> • January, 1994- Meetings are held in the northern, central, and southern portions of the <br /> county to present alternative rural character preservation strategies. <br /> • January-April, 1994 - The University Station Planning Group completes its work and <br /> presents its recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. <br />
