They encompass <br /> areas over which the County government has varying degrees of influence and serve as a guide in <br /> developing policies and programs related to land use and the management of growth and <br /> development in the county. <br /> CATEGORY: NATURAL ENVIRONMENT, RESOURCES CONSERVATION <br /> AND ENERGY <br /> GOAL ONE: The conservation and protection of Orange County's natural and cultural <br /> environments by means which are equitable to all citizens of the county. <br /> 1.1 Protect the following significant Public Interest Districts and Resource <br /> Protection Areas from adverse development impacts and require <br /> management of these areas in ways that will prevent internally generated <br /> negative impacts from affecting surrounding land: <br /> • Wetlands; <br /> • Floodplains and alluvial soils; <br /> • Steep slopes; <br /> • Natural areas,and wildlife corridors and habitats; <br /> • Historic and archaeological sites, including: <br /> 0 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places; <br /> 0 sites included on the State's National Register study list; <br /> 0 sites designated as a local historic landmark; <br /> 0 areas designated as a local historic district; and <br /> 0 areas identified as having a high potential for archaeological <br /> remains. <br /> • Publicly owned parkland(Eno River State Park); <br /> • Water reservoir buffer lands (lands around University Lake and Cane <br /> Creek Reservoir); <br /> • Research oriented lands(Duke Forest); and <br />
