071 <br /> • Road characteristics, including topography, surface material, and design speed, <br /> • Landscape features, including scenic vistas and similar features; <br /> • Vegetation, including forest and agricultural patterns; <br /> • Water bodies; <br /> • Cultural features, including buildings, walls, bridges, and fences; and <br /> • Other features, such as compatible development and signs <br /> These features were incorporated into a"Rural Roads Survey Form" and used to conduct a pilot study <br /> of the arterial and collector roads in Bingham Township. Subsequently, in 1994, all roads except <br /> residential access roads and interstate highways within a one-half mile radius of 12 study farms were <br /> evaluated for development of a purchase of development rights program for the county. More recently, <br /> in the Summer of 1995, interns surveyed rural roads as part of a regional transportation modeling <br /> project and identified additional "scenic road" candidates. The results of all these surveys have been <br /> combined to form the system of scenic routes shown on the Scenic Road Corridors Map. <br />
