2 <br /> LATIN AMERICAN RESOURCE CENTER <br /> PO Box 31871 <br /> Raleigh,NC 27622-1871 <br /> (919)870-LARC(5272) <br /> L A R C <br /> PRESS RELEASE <br /> LATIN AMERICAN ORGANIZATION IN NORTH CAROLINA OFFERS A <br /> FRESH APPROACH TO BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH EDUCATIONAL <br /> AWARD WINNING PROGRAM <br /> The Latin American Resource Center, LARC, is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) community service <br /> organization founded in 1991 by Aura Camacho Maas and located in Raleigh, North <br /> Carolina. LARC's mission is to facilitate the creation of cultural infrastructure throughout <br /> the Americas to support the economic world we live in. <br /> LARC believes that racial tension in an increasingly culturally diverse society <br /> hinders the transition to a rapidly growing globalized society that treats all of its <br /> citizenry fairly. Many individuals feel alienated from other individuals in their <br /> community, and this affects local social and economic development. <br /> LARC's programs are committed to: <br /> Easing racial tensions between Latin American, European-American, African- American, <br /> Native-American, and other Eultural communities. <br /> Establishing linkages among private and, public sectors. <br /> Building relationships between these diverse communities and sectors. <br /> Serving as springboard and catalyst for individual and community development <br /> projects. <br /> The Latin American Community Education Program, LACETM, is LARC's major <br /> program. It is a long-term, county-wide, comprehensive, international, <br /> multicultural, inter-disciplinary educational tool. By appealing to the diverse <br /> cultural roots of a community, LACE educates to bring about higher levels of <br /> interaction, intercultural understanding, and racial acceptance. <br /> LACE initial 18-month phase has five stages which include pre-planning, planning, <br /> two on-site international visits, from a chosen Latin American focus country; and a <br /> series of focus groups. ` <br /> LACE calls for county-wide support from the community and private and public <br /> sectors. A LACE county committee designs an action plan and helps LARC in <br />
