Department of Transportation for FY95-96. BACKGROUND: The Orange County Transportation Program is recognized as a Section 18 rural public system and is eligible for special state funds to subsidize existing O.P.T. (Orange Public Transportation) public routes by paying 80% of the fully allocated cost of public rider trips. Two Senior citizens routes, one Orange Enterprises route have been identified long with the OPT North-South Shuttle as available to the general public. The N.C. Department of Transportation will reimburse on a per trip basis. The purpose of the rural public funds is to encourage rural and small urban programs to expand public ridership in addition to human service agency transportation. The Orange County Human Services Transportation Advisory Hoard met on October 24th and approved seeking funds for this effort. RECOMMENDATION: Manager recommends approval and Chair to sign the Certified Statement of Participation in the Rural General Public Program for FY95-96.
