Department of Transportation for FY95-96. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Transportation Program is recognized as a <br /> Section 18 rural public system and is eligible for special <br /> state funds to subsidize existing O.P.T. (Orange Public <br /> Transportation) public routes by paying 80% of the fully <br /> allocated cost of public rider trips. Two Senior citizens <br /> routes, one Orange Enterprises route have been identified <br /> long with the OPT North-South Shuttle as available to the <br /> general public. The N.C. Department of Transportation will <br /> reimburse on a per trip basis. The purpose of the rural <br /> public funds is to encourage rural and small urban programs <br /> to expand public ridership in addition to human service <br /> agency transportation. The Orange County Human Services <br /> Transportation Advisory Hoard met on October 24th and <br /> approved seeking funds for this effort. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: Manager recommends approval and Chair to sign the <br /> Certified Statement of Participation in the Rural General <br /> Public Program for FY95-96. <br />
