6 ' <br /> Activities to Internationalize the Region's Economy <br /> 1. Supported the Research Triangle World Trade Center as corporate secretary <br /> and executive board member. Lobbied legislature for$200,000 in educational <br /> program funds for 1995/96. Assisted in obtaining other public support, served on <br /> nominating and membership committees. The RTWTC is now the World Trade <br /> Center North Carolina with branch offices at UNC Wilmington and at the <br /> Piedmont Triad International Airport. <br /> 2. Served as the grantee for Foreign Trade Zone #93; made numerous <br /> presentations and conducted the meetings of the Rates,Tariff, and Legal Review <br /> Board. Prepared FTZ annual report. Responsible for the FTZ Subzones, the <br /> largest of which is #93 B,IBM. Prepared and submitted FTZ subzone <br /> applications for Barry Manufacturing.of Goldsboro,AT&T of Guilford County. <br /> The Subzone application submitted last year for Merck Pharmaceuticals in Wilson <br /> was approved. Worked with US Customs to activate the new general purpose <br /> zone at Long Transportation. Assisted Long in marketing the Zone to <br /> international traders through out the world. <br /> 3. Increased the number and services of foreign trade zones throughout North <br /> Carolina. Contracted by the State of North Carolina, Department of Commerce to <br /> serve as their "grantee representative"for the three other foreign trade zones in <br /> North Carolina. Identified the need for a boundary modification at Zone #57 and <br /> began work on this. Also,provided testimony and supported the application for a <br /> rural North Carolina foreign-trade zone surrounding the Global TransPark and <br /> gave help to the Piedmont Triad Partnership in planning their FTZ application. <br /> These latter two efforts may also result in contracts for services. <br /> 4. Maintained world trade contacts via the North Carolina World Trade <br /> Association, Elected State Board Secretary, 1993 through 1996 and Triangle <br /> Chapter President for 1995-96. Advisor for the State NCWTA Annual Conference <br /> in May. NCWTA has received the Presidential "EXPORT"Award. <br />
