i <br /> Triangle J Council of Governments <br /> Economic Development Report to Local Governments <br /> Summary of 1994/95 Accomplishments <br /> Strategic Economic Planning and Cooperation <br /> 1. Worked on the various extended area telephone service projects,organizing <br /> local efforts and providing leadership and testimony before the North Carolina <br /> Utilities Commission. EAS was approved for Wake Forest,FuquayVarina & <br /> Holly Springs to and from the Research Triangle Park. EAS was also approved to <br /> and from Pittsboro and eastern Chatham County to and from Apex,Cary, and <br /> Raleigh. EAS means flat rate and toll free local calling for our citizens. Both of <br /> these EAS actions should be in effect during this next fiscal year. <br /> 2. Promoted the COG's Geographic Information System and Regional Data <br /> Center to developers and various key groups. Planned,promoted and marketed <br /> the new 1995/96 Greater Triangle Metro Map. <br /> 3. Promoted regional cooperation among chambers and local governments and <br /> among other key groups involved in the Region's economic development. e.g. <br /> Served as staff to the Regional Marketing Group made up of professional <br /> developers from the thirteen (13) counties that constitute (now) the Research <br /> Triangle Regional Partnership. Held four quarterly sessions at various venues: <br /> the general purpose Foreign Trade Zone offices in Raleigh's MiniCity,Carolina <br /> Sprint Headquarters in Wake Forest,Garner Chamber of Commerce, and the <br /> Wicker Convention Center in Sanford/Lee County. The purpose of these <br /> meetings is to promote regional understanding and improve marketing capacity. <br /> 4. Served with local economic development groups. Participated in the Wake <br /> County Economic Development Commission's planning process. Made <br /> presentations to industrial clients for the various chambers and county economic <br /> development commissions throughout the Region. <br /> 5. Worked on the projects with the RDU International Airport staff including <br /> efforts to increase the number of airlines serving the area and the frequency and <br /> destinations of daily passenger and cargo departures. <br /> 6. Served on the Central Carolina Consortium and with the UNC Center for <br /> Educational Leadership to coordinate planning and delivery of quality school to <br /> work training. Explored with the staff of the Governor's Workforce Preparedness <br /> Commission the potential for improved delivery of job training services in the <br /> Triangle. <br /> Over <br />
