0 <br /> 4 <br /> 1995/96 Work Plan <br /> Triangle J Council of Governments Board of Delegates <br /> Goals to Improve the Economic Competitiveness of the Region <br /> Goal: Identify the key factors that will keep this Region economically <br /> competitive and promote actions on the part of local,state and federal <br /> governments that will strengthen the Region's economy. <br /> • With the staff of the Greater Triangle Regional Council and with the Research <br /> Triangle Regional Partnership, pursue a regional economic development strategy. <br /> Pmts may include: • Regional economic analysis which describes the region's <br /> major employers, the major types of employment, how manufactured goods are <br /> imported into and exported from the region,wage and work-force skill levels, <br /> trends in the size and composition of the work force, and trends in major types of <br /> businesses. • Regional economic forecasting model which builds on the above <br /> economic analysis, current state,national and international economic trends, and <br /> the effects of new public policies and social trends upon businesses. • Undertake <br /> cooperative demographic forecasting. • Identify long-term development <br /> alternatives and assessment of the costs associated with various development <br /> patterns. • Conduct a long-term study of water supplies. • Promote the <br /> development and use of the Triangle J GIS and Regional Data Center. <br /> Goal: Further the Internationalization of the Region's Economy <br /> • Support the World Trade Center North Carolina (formerly RTWTC) as corporate <br /> secretary and executive board member. • Maintain world trade contacts via the <br /> North Carolina World Trade Association,re-elected State Executive Board <br /> Secretary. • Serve as 1995/96 NCWTA Triangle Chapter President. • Advisor for <br /> the 1996 State NCWTA Annual Conference in Wilmington. • Serve as the grantee <br /> for Foreign Trade Zone #93 and meet all contractual responsibilities for Zone #93 <br /> and Subzones; market the general purpose zone and develop new subzones as <br /> needed,provide training and make public presentations. • Meet the contractual <br /> responsibilities of FTZ grantee representative for the NC Department of Commerce <br /> and develop other contracts along this line. <br /> Goal: Assist member governments,individually or collectively,to <br /> deliver cost-effective services to their citizens. <br /> • Continue the push for an affordable,regional telephone system. • Conduct a <br /> survey of local governments to ascertain the extent of use of the Internet and the <br /> extent of infrastructure available to access to the information highway. • Explore <br /> new sources for assistance to governments and business. • Seek alternative <br /> sources& funds for the COG. • Lobby for the interests of the Region. <br /> 10/95 <br />
