MO e
The slopes in the Northwest Study Area have been
categorized as follows::
0 to 5 % Prime Buildable
5 to 10 % Secondary Buildable/
Minor Restrictions
10 to 15 % Secondary Buildable/Restrictions
(Additional site preparation techniques
that minimize grading and site
disturbance are necessary.)
15 to 20 % Conserved
(Building and site preparations can
occur, but site restrictions are severe.
These areas require customized
architectural solutions and specialized
site design techniques and
approaches.)
Over 20 % Preserved
(Requires detailed soil, hydrology,
bedrock, and other engineering/
environmental studies be made to
determine acceptable building and
site engineering techniques.)
Area Summary
The Northwest Study Area is quite unlike the rest
of Chapel Hill in that most of the area contains
slopes of less than 5 percent.
The steeper slopes in the area (5 to 15 percent)
are mainly along the edges of the major streams.
Slopes in excess of 15 percent are extremely
isolated and exist mainly at the intersection of Old
Field Creek and Interstate 40, and at the southeast
corner of the study area.
Page 14 Northwest Small Area Plan
