53
Alexander Hogan Plantation Site, although
there may be archeological significance at
the site, does not meet criteria for listing
in the National Register. Seconded by
Allison.
VOTE: Unanimous.
T. Dickinson then address the audience stating that the
Commission is concerned with this site as well as other sites
within the County, whether they are above ground or below ground.
The Commission is not concerned, as historic preservationists,
with cemeteries and the remains of family members because that is
dealt with in another form by other people. The Commission is
caring human beings and are very concerned with what happens to
cemeteries, but that is not a historic problem for this Board.
If there is an impact by any County or private development, that
cemetery will have to be dealt with in a respectful way and you
will be consulted on how that is dealt with and you will have
your say on how that is dealt with at that time. But that is not
his Commission's purview This Commission's purview at this
meeting was merely to pass on the National Register Nomination.
The Commission will work towards mitigation at this site for you
as your preservation commissioners, but have not endorsed this
nomination.
12
