45 <br /> The other cemetery was a barn. Leak's father was <br /> caretaker of the cemetery. When Duke bought it, her <br /> father stopped taking care of the cemetery. There were <br /> a couple of other log cabins not too far from the white <br /> house. There was an orchard beside the big house with <br /> apple and pear trees. This is also where the garden <br /> was. If you are looking at the house, the orchard <br /> would be to the left. <br /> Leak stated that her cousin, Ms. Rogers, could add to <br /> this. <br /> White, asked if the present Eubanks Road is the old <br /> Eubanks Road? Is it the same roadbed? <br /> Leak replied that it is. But then, it was a narrow <br /> dirt road. <br /> Leak stated that in most houses, you had to leave the <br /> house to go to a separate building to get to the <br /> kitchen. But in this house, there was a breezeway <br /> connecting the house to the kitchen. <br /> Anderson asked what was the distinction between the two <br /> grave sites? The one within the wall and the one <br /> outside? <br /> Leak replied that the ones within the walls were for <br /> the head men and their families. The other people <br /> connected to the farm, such as Leak's grandfather, were <br /> buried near the wall. <br /> Don Willhoit, who was next to speak, asked that Ms. <br /> Rogers speak next to keep the rhythm going. <br /> Mildred Rogers was sworn in and addressed the <br /> Commission stating that the first she knew of the <br /> Alexander Hogan Plantation was in 1946. Rogers and her <br /> husband walked down through the orchard consisting of <br /> fruit trees and flowers and the cemetery. <br /> Don Willhoit, Orange County Commissioner, was sworn in <br /> and addressed the Commission stating that as a <br /> Commissioner, he will have an opportunity to vote on <br /> this at a later time. He is also the Chair of the <br /> Landfill Owners Group, but not here in that capacity, <br /> but just as an individual member and not presumed to <br /> speak for that group.
