ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT 40 <br /> 306F REVERE ROAD <br /> HILLSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA 27278 <br /> c' <br /> NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING <br /> BEFORE THE <br /> HISTORIC PRESERVATION CON USSION <br /> OF <br /> ORANGE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> Pursuant to the requirements to the Certification Agreement for Local Governments between Orange <br /> County and North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources, Division of Archives and History, State Historic <br /> Preservation Office and in accordance with Article 4.3 of the Orange County Historic Preservation Ordinance, <br /> notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held before the Orange County Historic Preservation <br /> Commission in the Conference Room of the Planning and Agricultural Center, 306 Revere Road, Hillsborough, <br /> North Carolina, on Tuesday, September 12, 1995, at 7:00 p.m. to receive citizen comment on the following <br /> nomination to the National Register of Historic Places: <br /> HP-1-95 Alexander Hogan Plantation Site (3108296**) <br /> The property is located in Chapel Hill Township on the north side of Eubanks Road (SR 1727) at the <br /> intersection of Rogers Road (SR 1729). The site is located within the Blackwood Division of Duke <br /> Forest which is referenced as lot 7A on tax map 20. <br /> The archeological remains of the Alexander Hogan Plantation cover approximately twelve (12) acres <br /> and include foundations of four or five structures and a cemetery containing at least 24 graves. The <br /> plantation was established in 1838. Farming of wheat, corn, oats, and barley continued until the end of <br /> the nineteenth century when the plantation was divided by the heirs of Alexander and Matilda Hogan. <br /> The property was later acquired by Duke University in the mid-1940's and has since been preserved as <br /> part of Duke Forest. <br /> All interested citizens are invited to'attend the public hearing and be heard. <br /> Questions regarding the meeting may be directed to the Orange County Planning and Inspections <br /> Department located in the Planning and Agricultural Center, 306F Revere Road, Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
