Price, Jr., Director
August 11 , 1995
. Mr. Moses Carey, Chair
Orange Co. Board of Commissioners
901 Lystra Lane
Chapel Hill , N . C. 27516
Re: Alexander Hogan Plantation Site, 31OR296**
Blackwood Division , Duke Forest, Orange County
Dear Chairman Carey:
We are pleased to inform you that the above-referenced archaeological
site nomination has been scheduled for presentation to the National
Register Advisory Committee at its meeting on October 11 , 1995 in
Raleigh. The Committee will decide whether to authorize me as State
Historic Preservation Officer to sign the nomination and submit it to
the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, for final
review and listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
The National Register is the nation's official list of historic
buildings, districts, archaeological sites, and other resources worthy
of preservation. Enclosed is a set of National Register Fact Sheets
which includes a list of the criteria under which properties are
evaluated. More than 1800 North Carolina properties are now listed in
the. National Register.
Listing in the National Register does not affect the rights of a
private property owner to dispose of listed property in any manner:
The results of National Register listing are enumerated on the
enclosed National Register Fact Sheet 1 .
Owners of private property nominated to the National Register have an
opportunity to concur in or object to listing in accord with the
National Historic Preservation Act and 36 CFR 60 . The procedure for
objecting to the listing of private property is indicated on National
Register Fact Sheet 5 . If the owner of the property chooses to object
to the listing of their property, the objection must be submitted to
me at 109 E. Jones Street. We would like to receive owners' comments
by October 11 , 1995 , but statements may be submitted up until the
actual date of listing , which usually takes place at least 15 days but
not more than 45 days after the nomination is received by the Keeper
of the National Register following the National Register Advisory
Committee meeting.
109 East Joora Smd - Raleigh,Noah Carolina 27601-2807
