Specifically it lies in a heavily wooded area just north of the intersection of Eubanks (SR <br /> 1727) and Rogers (SR 1729) roads. <br /> Preliminary documentary work by Duke Forest staff has identified the site as being the Alexander <br /> Hogan plantation which was established in 1838. Alexander inherited the land from his father Thomas <br /> Hogan prior to the elder Hogan's death; the land had been in the Hogan family since the 1700s. The <br /> plantation covered about 380 acres, one third of which was improved land. Wheat, corn, oats, and barley <br /> were the primary plantation crops. <br />
