2
The Health Director has identified $5, 000 from the Kellogg Mini-Grant
that could be used for this purpose. Since the Board of Commissioners
has adopted the Healthy Carolinians Task Force as a goal, the Board of
Health at its meeting of August 24, 1995, agreed to request that the
Board of Commissioners match this amount with an additional $5, 000
dollars.
An outcome of the project would include a community health assessment
that would result from broad community participation as well as thorough
scientific and epidemiological methods. An additional outcome would be
the establishment of a community wide partnership for health that would
improve health conditions in Orange County. The Healthy Carolinians is
not simply as assessment process, it also results in action plans to
remedy the conditions identified in the assessment.
THE PLAN 1) for the Health Department to participate in funding a
contract with the UNC School of Public Health;
2) to authorize the development of a contract between the
Health Department and the School of Public Health for
a part-time project coordinator;
3) to allocate $5, 000 dollars from the Kellogg funded,
Community Based Public Health Initiative; and
4) to allocate $5, 000 dollars from the Commissioners
Contingency Fund.
RECObMNDATION(S) As the Board decides.
