Passmore, ext. 2009 <br /> Agreements <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBER- <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> PURPOSE: <br /> To request approval to include the Orange County Middle School <br /> Afterschool Program in the Orange County Public Tranportation <br /> (OPT) system for the current fiscal year. This contract would <br /> require leasing three (3) existing OPT vehicles and employing <br /> three new temporary drivers each Monday through Thursday, from <br /> 5- 7 pm for the balance of the school year to transport middle <br /> school students home from the Afterschool Program operating at <br /> the new A.L Stanback and Stanford Middle Schools. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The Orange County Public Transportation system, administered by the <br /> Department on Aging, provides vehicles and drivers to transport human <br /> services program participants and the general public. The Orange County <br /> Middle School has requested transportion home for its students in this <br /> special afterschool program. The service is in line with Federal Transi <br /> Act regulations in that it will operate during off- peak hours (5-7 p.m. <br /> and it is not part of the required school curriculum. O.P.T. will employ <br /> temporary, part-time drivers from the Orange County school bus drivers <br /> pool to provide this service. Estimated annual cost would be $25,920.00. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : <br /> The Manager recommends approval and Chair to sign agreements <br /> for a vehicle and driver lease to provide transportation for <br /> the Afterschool Program. <br />
