z <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> NATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH <br /> OCTOBER 1995 <br /> WHEREAS, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is the most comprehensive civil <br /> rights legislation for people with disabilities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the ADA provides anti-discrimination protection for Americans with disabilities <br /> in public and private employment, public accommodations, transportation and <br /> telecommunications; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is evidenced through the ADA that Americans with disabilities are integral, <br /> contributing, productive, and valued citizens; and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to full compliance and implementation of the <br /> ADA; and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County needs the talents, skills and abilities of every one of our <br /> citizens, including our citizens with disabilities; and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County cannot afford to lose the contributions that people with <br /> disabilities bring, not only to the workplace but also to mainstream community <br /> life; and <br /> WHEREAS, Congress, by Joint Resolution, has designated October of each year as <br /> "National Disability Employment Awareness Month"; and <br /> WHEREAS, This month provides the opportunity for all Americans to recognize the <br /> tremendous value and potential of people with disabilities, and to recommit and <br /> dedicate ourselves to the empowerment, integration, employment, and full <br /> inclusion of everyone of our citizens with disabilities. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that October 1995 is National Disability <br /> Employment Awareness Month in Orange County. <br /> This the day of October 1995. <br /> Moses Carey, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
