One aspect of this plan is <br /> the proposal to upgrade the County' s IBM RISC 6000 Model 530H client- <br /> server to a Model 590H. This upgrade would roughly quadruple the <br /> internal processor speed and double the disk size. In practical terms, <br /> it would allow the Data Processing staff to move all mainframe <br /> applications that still reside on the McDonnell-Douglas M9255 over to <br /> the RISC 6000 . All County client-server applications would then be run <br /> on the RISC 6000, and the County could discontinue use and maintenance <br /> of the McDonnell-Douglas. <br /> Following the August 22 report and development of specifications by <br /> County Staff, bids were solicited from seven vendors . Two bidders <br /> responded. IBM of Raleigh, North Carolina submitted the lowest <br /> responsible bid at a cost delivered and installed of $47, 537 .20 . <br /> A tabulation of the bids is included. Sufficient funds have been <br /> included in the 1995-96 Data Processing budget to accomplish the <br /> outright purchase of this upgrade. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends award of the bid to IBM of <br /> Raleigh, North Carolina for a total cost of $47 , 537.20 to upgrade the <br /> IBM RISC 6000 Model 530H in Data Processing to a Model 590H. <br />
