5 <br /> ► <br /> Attachment 2 <br /> C3125-10/95 <br /> GIS PROJECT COORDINATOR <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs difficult professional work in the creation and preparation of plans, maps, spatial <br /> analyses and other illustrative materials using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)hardware <br /> and software for ongoing planning studies,reports and other projects; does related work as <br /> required. <br /> Work is performed under general supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Captures spatial data for GIS projects by digitizing various hardcopy forms such as tax maps or <br /> aerial photographs; Creates databases for given coverages by selectively constructing attribute <br /> (text) files such as street names file for county roads coverage or an ownership file for a parcel <br /> coverage; Updates existing coverages and related databases to reflect actual conditions such as <br /> changes in zoning for particular areas; <br /> Evaluates planning inquiries,problems or studies and performs spatial analyses on selected <br /> coverages to determine outcomes and impacts, such as determining the land best suited for septic <br /> systems or farming; Designs and creates computer map compositions for planning projects to be <br /> used as illustrations for meetings or publications; <br /> Assigns building numbers and maintains street address databases for new construction and <br /> existing structures; <br /> Responds to public and staff inquiries concerning GIS products and street addresses; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: <br /> Thorough knowledge of GIS technology and software and its use with modern planning <br /> principles; general knowledge of drafting principles and practices as applicable to map design; <br /> thorough knowledge of the operation of a computerized digital mapping system and related <br /> peripheral equipment; ability to interpret and map planning data; ability to interpret aerial <br /> photographs, topographic maps and zoning maps; ability to produce accurate drawings, maps, <br /> graphs and illustrations; general knowledge of planning aspects and regulations of county-wide <br /> addressing system; skilled in operating computerized graphic/mapping workstations,personal <br /> computers, and computer terminals; ability to prepare reports and studies; ability to establish and <br /> maintain effective working relationships with County officials, associates and the general public; <br /> ability to plan and carry out GIS projects without detailed instructions or close supervision. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited <br /> college or university with major course work in computer science,planning, environmental <br /> science, geography, architectural drafting or related field and at least two years experience with <br /> GIS analysis and applications. <br />
