On September 5, 1995, the Board of County Commissioners approved appropriations from their <br /> Contingency fund for two Farmland Preservation Workshops and a Wildlife Habitat Study. The <br /> appropriation for the Farmland Preservation Workshops, totalling$3,040, will enable the Agricultural <br /> Districts Advisory Board to conduct workshops relating to comprehensive approaches to preservation of <br /> farmland. The Wildlife Habitat Study will allow the Triangle Land Conservancy to study and identify <br /> wildlife corridors which animals must travel in order to survive. In turn,this will help the County better <br /> plan wisely and avoid inadvertently destroying endangered animals and their habitats. The appropriation <br /> for this study totals $10,000 (see block#1,page 3). <br /> Community Development Fund <br /> 2. The North Carolina Department of Commerce recently awarded Orange County$378,495 in Community <br /> Development Block Grant Funds. This grant,approved by the Board of County Commissioners on <br /> August 31,995,will be used to rehabilitate 17 deteriorated homes in the County. The attached grant <br /> project ordinance(page 4 of this amendment),Community Development Block Grant, provides for the <br /> receipt of these funds. <br /> 3. The Orange County HOME Consortium has been designated as a HOME Program Participating <br /> Jurisdiction by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development(HUD). As the lead <br /> administrative entity for the Consortium,Orange County will receive an entitlement allocation totalling <br /> $500,000 from HUD. In addition, local jurisdictions will contribute a combined local match of 25 <br /> percent of the entitlement allocation($500,000 less$50,000 for administration). Based on a Consortium <br /> agreement,the following individual jurisdiction contributions are: <br /> Orange County 42% $47,250 <br /> Chapel Hill 41% $46,125 <br /> Carrboro 12% $13,500 <br /> Hillsborough 5% $ 5,625 <br />
