It not only celebrates the life and
work of Sophie Steiner, who tragically died at the age of 14 last August,
but also the lives of her peers at the United Church who learned a lot
from her being—and passing.
Sophie was an exceptionally generous and authentic person who
embraced life and illness with great strength and wisdom. She had the
capacity to form relationships with people of all ages and was always
interested in the lives of others. American-Swiss by birth, Sophie spent
many summers hiking with her family in Switzerland.
In the booklet of her writings and blogs (which the Carrboro Branch
Library's Art Committee has compiled to accompany this exhibition)
Sophie's excitement about life is outstanding even though she became
well aware of her pending demise.
As her sisters Annabel and Else Steiner write "When each of us makes
something out of our lives and does big, meaningful things, that is
Sophie's legacy and we will know that she is smiling"
We are honored to feature Sophie Steiner's life and work at the
Carrboro Branch Library.
