The
InFocusg process includes the following components:
• Photography assignment based on a theme
• Facilitated discussion about the photographs
• Photographs and narratives are shared with the public
• Increased awareness leads to increased community access
and inclusion.
The attached photos illustrate two recurring themes in our work:
Desire to be treated like an adult
Frequently, adults with disabilities are treated like children. The young woman pictured
in her photo expressed frustration that even in a restaurant, the wait staff will often ask
her parents what she would like to order. This experience was found to be quite common
among InFocus participants.
Having skills and talents to share
Many InFocus participants have been excited to share their interests and skills. It is
typical for the public to only see the disability, rarely getting to know the individual and
discover their talents.
