DocuSign Envelope ID: C65FFCA2-OCAA-4476-9EO3-793FA837F635 Page 1 of 1
Nerys Levy
From: "Louise Francke" <franckearts @mebtel.net>
To: "Nerys Levy"<rilevy @mindspring.com>
Sent: Friday, November 07, 2014 9:47 PM
Subject: statement
Art is the profession which chose me in my earliest years. My Grandfather's National
Geographic subscription uncovered a distant and a strange wild world. These encounters
with art objects, buildings, and strange people subconsciously altered my mind before the age
of 10. My private world was one of dreams where I could escape the reality of my parents
discontent. Grandpa's log cabin in Highland Lakes was my sanctuary. Summers were spent
dreaming as I walked two hunting dogs, rowed or swam long distances. I dreaded returning in
September to the city and school.
Creating art held my interest and imagination. Surrealism became my artistic escape hatch.
My psychological surrealism, vividly revealed my life as I tried to make sense of it. To lighten
my own mood & conjure up my own survival instinct, I then started to paint humorous
costumed or au natural pets/endangered species situated in master paintings.
Now, surrealism has lost its glow or perhaps I am now freed from my past. In the winter of my
life, I have chosen a path into an abstract world. It continues the "art" challenge to see and
think of subject matter, color and composition in a totally different way than previously. It
frees my hand from the former intricate painting. My aim, however, has always been to bring
joy or comfort the viewer and perhaps thus myself. These new abstract paintings are closely
tied to our environment. I use color in pleasant patterns to evoke light and a mood. As Hans
Hoffman said, "In nature light creates the color. In the picture, color creates the light. "
This is what I'm attempting to do in my most recent abstract paintings and mono rints.
z .
®r
j5
l r F
t
7i
 I
,rte y'
rr i F.r Iri{1
rrci#G}lo:f;i
11/10/2014
