Barbara Barnes has attended a couple of my band's <br /> shows and sketched images of both the individual members and the band as a whole. She does a <br /> great job capturing our individual personalities in her own unique style. Social media is really the way <br /> for bands to reach our fans now, and having new content to share on a regular basis is critical for <br /> building our fan base. Having sketches from Art Images Live gives us a new way to connect with our <br /> fans. People love Barbara's sketches, and they broaden the reach of our music as well. In this day <br /> and age, people are less and less willing to pay for music.TV keeps them away from live music,and <br /> free streaming products like Spotify discourage them from buying albums. Making music is a money <br /> pit for most of us,and we certainly don't have the revenue streams to pay for someone like Barbara <br /> to sketch our concerts.That's why artists need patrons. Grant-funding helps to fill the world with <br /> beauty because the market won't do it alone. She has been a parishioner in two of the local churches <br /> where I have served as a priest. Over the years, I have seen Barbara make her way through a series of <br /> challenges. There is no question she is a survivor! <br /> Barbara's art deeply enriched both church communities. Despite her challenges,she consistently and <br /> selflessly shared her talents with us and we are so much the better for it!We regularly featured her <br /> art in devotional publications and spiritual events. Many have found inspiration,comfort, and hope in <br /> her work. The children loved having <br /> their likenesses taken by Barbara and were so proud of their portraits.They had enjoyed craft classes <br /> during the week,and I think it was extra special for them to see an adult who still loved making things with <br /> her hands,working on a craft and creating beauty. Barbara and her work were a very important part of the <br /> week. <br /> As an artist, I especially enjoy seeing Barbara sketching and drawing during our worship services. <br /> Her work is quiet, meditative and interpretive. She is a reminder to all of us of the need to respond to <br /> beauty and life as whole beings. <br />
