She amazed me with her artistic flair, literally dancing to the music while she sketched the musicians.When I looked at a number of her pencil drawings I could sense a connection with their"art"and hers. Barbara has since been an artistic presence in virtually every music venue and festival in this area. She is broadly welcomed and appreciated by numerous bands in the area,and generously contributes her sketches to band members she portrays. I am very thankful to have one of her drawings of a favorite local band. She definitely adds a lot to the music venue experience and capturing the essence of the musicians! I believe she has shared her art with incredible effort and generosity. By finding an innovative way to take it to the people,combining live music with"live drawing",she has created a new type of performance. She not only records the images in her own way, but participates in the music scene, getting to know her subjects and fellow listeners, and shares the drawings with them as well. I have seen many musicians and others post Barbara's drawings as their social media images,and their enthusiasm for her work is energizing.As an artist myself, I am really pleased to see an artist do so much with paper and pencil in an age where art is often based in technology. She regularly attends live music shows in the area,despite difficulties with health and transportation,to do on-the-spot sketches of the performers. She was the featured artist in our June 2013 issue. Everyone these days has cell-phone cameras, but Ms. Barnes'sketches provide a unique record of our thriving local music scene.
