She studied ballet at Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA and North Carolina School of the Arts. An anthropology graduate of UNC, she received her MA in dance from UNC-Greensboro with recognized credits from American Dance Festival. Ms. Lorentz de Haas has been teaching ballet for over 35 years. She founded the Triangle Youth Ballet to serve the needs of young aspiring dancers and has served as director since 1995. This season marks the 20th anniversary of the Triangle Youth Ballet's Nutcracker, choreographed by Ms. Lorentz de Haas. In 2003,the school of the Triangle Youth Ballet was opened. In 2004, under her direction, the performing company was accepted into the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association and. Regional Dance America. Ms. Lorentz de flaas has choreographed Peter and the Wolf, Carnival of the Animals and Bug Songs for the NC Symphony. A full length Dracula, also choreographed by Ms. Lorentz de Haas has been in the TYB repertory since 2005. Andrew M. McAfee, Conductor After playing Principal Horn with the North Carolina Symphony for 15 years (1992-2007), Andrew McAfee now focuses on mentoring through teaching horn at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), conducting as the Music Director/Conductor of the Triangle Youth Ballet and the Masterworks Reading Orchestra(www.masterworksro.com). Mr. McAfee completed his Bachelor of Music in Performance at Northwestern University and has won national auditions for positions with the Fresno Philharmonic,Honolulu Symphony, Columbus Symphony,New Mexico Symphony and the North Carolina Symphony g Orchestras. He studied conducting for 9,summers with Maestro Harold Farberman at the Conductor's Institute and then with Maestro Ransom Wilson at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where he completed his Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting. As Music Director/Conductor of the Triangle Youth Ballet in Chapel Hill, Mr. McAfee has conducted full orchestral productions of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty in May 2008 and March 2009, The Nutcracker eves year since December 2008, and Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf in April 2012.
