BACKGROUND: In September 1993 , the Board approved an agreement with the University whereunder the Sheriff ' s Department provides sworn law enforcement officers for security and law enforcement coverage at special events such as football and basketball games and concerts at the Smith Center. The University reimburses the County fully for salary and benefit payments and for the cost of any County equipment used in providing the service. The agreement has worked well during the past two years, and could be renewed automatically before each academic year unless one or both parties indicate the desire to discontinue the arrangement. The proposed contract for 1995-96 is identical in scope and terms to the agreement that was originally approved by the Board of Commissioners. RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board approve the proposed contract: authorize the Manager to sign it; and approve the automatic renewal of the contract each academic year as long as both the University and the County desire to continue it.
