V-7q <br /> Orange County <br /> f o r Women <br /> h n r Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br /> B 1 11 North C urto Street <br /> ox 81 0 <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, August 26 , 1995 , marks the 75th anniversary of the <br /> woman suffrage movement ' s greatest victory: ratification <br /> of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United <br /> States; and <br /> WHEREAS, the amendment reads as follows : <br /> "The right of citizens of the Unites States to vote <br /> shall not be denied or abridged by the United States <br /> or by any state on account of sex . " ; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Orange County Commission for Women advises the <br /> citizens and the Board of Commissioners of Orange County of <br /> the status of women in Orange County; and <br /> WHEREAS, that status continues to be unequal , especially <br /> economically and politically; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> hereby proclaims Saturday, August 26 , 1995, as <br /> WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY <br /> in commemoration of the suffrage victory and as a reminder of <br /> women' s continuing efforts towards equality, and hereby urges <br /> all citizens to exercise their right to vote and continue to <br /> work to guarantee full equality for all women. <br /> This the 22nd day of August, 1995 . <br /> 4 10 a6,-7� <br /> Moses Carey, Jr. <br /> Chair <br /> Hillsborough 732-8181 • Chapel Hill 967-9251 • Mebane 227-2031 • Durham 688-7331 <br />
