Hunting & Fishing Ordinance
TELEPHONE NUMBER -
Hillsborough -732-8181
Chapel Hill -968-4501
Mebane -227-2031
Durham -688-7331
pT 0 receive,-as matlon-t7i-e sssu—es identl'Fe-d-y tie WiEtiKg-EFis- g
Ordinance Committee as possible amendments to the current ordinance.
BACKGROUND: In December 1991, the BOCC approved the Ordinance Regulating
Hunting and Fishing on Private Lands or Waters Without Written Permission of Owner.
In 1993, the Hunting & Fishing Ordinance Committee met to assess the impact of the
ordinance. At that time, discussions indicated that the ordinance was having the desired
effect. Enforcement agencies noted that there was a substantial reduction in the number
of violations and complaints received regarding hunting practices.
At the December 5, 1994 BOCC meeting, the Board received petitions from citizens
concerned about hunting safety. To address these concerns, the Manager reconvened
the Hunting & Fishing Ordinance Committee, along with other interested persons, to
review the current practices and provide an assessment to the Board.
The Committee has met during 1995 and identified ideas which require consideration by
the Board.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the report
as information and further recommends that the Board consider setting a Public Hearing
for the October 2, 1995 regular meeting to receive public comments on the ideas
proposed in the report. It is also recommended that the members of the Hunting &
Fishing Ordinance Committee be present at the public hearing, if possible, and that the
Committee make specific proposals on and changes to the Ordinance after considering
citizen comments.
