A #U'J*VDJ L 10 1 Did Lei To: Laura Blackmon, County Manager Willie Best, Assistant County Manager From: David Stancil, E&RC Director Lori Taft, Recreation and Parks Director RE: Fairview Park Status Report Date: February 18, 2008 As the Board of County Commissioners prepares to meet with the Hillsborough Town Board, we thought a brief update on the progress at Fairview Park might be useful. In way of background, the master plan for this park was approved in 2006/2007 by the two boards. The Board of County Commissioners approved a contract with the firm of Corley, Redfoot and Zack / Susan Hatchell in 2007 to develop engineering, construction drawings and bid documents for the park. The following is a summary of the status of the project: ❑ A grant application in the amount of $500,000 was developed and transmitted to the N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund on January 31 to help fund park facility construction. Word on the grant should be received by May (first grant awards) or July (subsequent awards). ❑ The consultants have been meeting with staff weekly to review work on the final design and construction documents. ❑ In the next few months, application will be made to the town for site plan review and approval. By the summer, results of the grant application will be known and the project should go out to bid during the summer months. A construction contract should be ready for approval by Fall 2008 ❑ Following execution of the contract (late-fall 2008), a Groundbreaking Ceremony would be held on site. ❑ Construction would continue through the year, and should be complete in less than 12 months. Theoretically, the park could open during the summer/fall of 2009. ❑ County and Town staff have held a meeting to discuss ideas for the operation of the park (please see attached letter).
