Gl <br />®f <br />C-lill <br />5,me i� <br />07994 Town of Hillsborough <br />RESOLUTION <br />Stating Support for Participating in the Development of a Joint -Public Meeting Facility <br />with Orange County and the Town of Hillsborough <br />WHEREAS, it is vital that governmental business be conducted in a manner that makes it easy for citizens to listen, <br />learn, participate, question, and voice their opinions during public meetings; and <br />WHEREAS, a well designed meeting room aids the public, media, staff, and elected officials in performing their <br />critical roles in the public process; and <br />WHEREAS, there appears to be a mutual need for a quality public meeting space in downtown Hillsborough to <br />assist the governments of Orange County and the Town of Hillsborough in conducting their business, and <br />WHEREAS, one possible solution to providing quality public meeting space that has been discussed is future <br />renovation of a portion of Orange County's John Link Government Center building on- Cameron Street; and <br />WHEREAS, as referenced in the November 16, 2006 letter from Town Manager Eric Peterson to then Acting <br />County Manager Rod Visser, Orange County officials articulated a willingness to consider joint participation with <br />Hillsborough on construction of a new meeting facility in the Link Center in'return for Hillsborough's agreement to <br />not build in the "hardwoods" section of their future Motor Pool/Public Works Facility to help finalize the Fairview <br />Public Campus Master Plan approval process; and <br />NOW THEREFORE LET IT RESOLVED by the Town Board of Commissioners, that if Orange County <br />determines they have a need for a new or improved meeting space in downtown Hillsborough that the town is <br />willing to commit financial and other support, including the incursion of debt payments if necessary, to partner with <br />Orange County in building a shared meeting facility. The Town Board of Commissioners authorizes the town <br />manager to have discussions with Orange County officials regarding this matter, if they feel there is an opportunity <br />to address critical capital and customer service needs for both governments in a cost effective manner by <br />cooperating with Orange Orange County. <br />RESOLVED THIS T 14TH DAY OF JANUARY, 2008 by the Town of Hillsborough Board of Commissioners. <br />Tom Stevens, ayor <br />►/ • <br />101 East Orange Street o P.O.
