I hope that you will encourage each of the members of your governing board to attend this meeting. With the Landfill Owners' Group likely to make a recommendation soon on the next landfill site, I believe it is extremely important for all Orange County elected officials to be knowledgeable of landfill issues specifically, and solid waste management issues generally. The June 29 meeting is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm with an explanation and bus tour of operations at both the north and south sides of the Eubanks Road landfill. Following that, elected officials would go to the Homestead Community Center for brief staff reports on the integrated solid waste study, the landfill site search process, and landfill reorganization and finance options. A light supper will be provided by the Town of Hillsborough. Depending on the number of questions and the amount of discussion, I foresee this meeting ending sometime between 7 :00pm-7:30pm. I understand that the LOG staff will prepare a packet with additional background material on each of these three major topics for distribution at or shortly before the June 29 meeting.
