Board Comments
Commissioner Gordon stated that during a Board of County Commissioners' (BOCC)
meeting on October 14, references were made to the formation of a separate department for
the environment. She provided a handout regarding the creation of the Environment and
Resource Conservation Department (now called the Department of Environment, Agriculture,
Parks and Recreation) and the Comprehensive Resource Conservation Program (now called
the Lands Legacy Program). This land acquisition program was proposed as a major task for
the new environmental department.
The seven page handout first showed the agenda abstract for the June 22, 1998
meeting at which the new department was formed, followed by a memorandum from
Commissioner Gordon dated May 25, 1998 which outlined the proposal for the new
department. Following that, there was a second memorandum from her, also dated May 25,
