75
and had not received anything for it. He had given
the developer of Cornwallis Hills a strip of land
for a power line easement. He felt he had treated
everyone as he would like to be treated. Mr. Rippy
continued that the man had said he didn't care what
Mr. Rippy did on his property except he did not want
him to cut the trees. Mr. Rippy indicated his
response was that the man's house was built right
up to his property line and that he would continue
to timber his property. At that point, someone was
called who came out with a deputy and told Mr. Rippy
he would have to stop timbering and he did stop. He
continued that he did receive permission to clear
cut the property but he chose not to do so. He did
wish his property could all be included in the EDD,
and he did hope the Planning Board would accept the
recommendation as presented by the Planning Staff.
Juanita Sturdivant, Old NC 86 resident, stated that
her property is in the middle of the upper section.
She expressed concern that the statement had been
made that money was the objective of the residents.
She noted that she intended to stay in her home as
long as possible; she did not desire to move. It is less
than they wanted but they are willing to accept the
recommendation.
Pamela Rippy, Cornwallis Hills resident, stated that
the reason she had moved to the area was the easy
access to I-40 and I-85 and the beauty of the area
along Old NC 86. She expressed sympathy for the
homeowners and appreciation for the way they had
maintained the beauty of the area that Cornwallis
Hills residents can share. She did not wish the area
to become more commercial, wanted it to be secondary
in order to maintain the beauty of the area.
