In 2012 -2013 1 co- chaired the Chapel Hill 2020 process, a highly
inclusive citizen visioning process that led to adoption of a new comprehensive plan in Chapel
Hill. I have also served on the boards of OWASA, the Chapel Hill- Carrboro YMCA, Chapel Hill
Housing Authority, regional Transportation Planning group (MPO), Chamber of Commerce and
various special purpose committees working for the Town of Chapel Hill and the local school
system. My habit is to prepare for meetings, attend regularly, and participate.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
For a long time I have admired the professionalism and the positive contribution of our visitors
program. It has been and remains one of our very best efforts in economic development. The
visitors program is extremely important to the local economy and I very much want it to thrive
and diversify as market conditions evolve.
I was a point person in getting approvals for the new Southern Village Hyatt Place, which we will
start construction on later this year. I will be working with the hotel during construction and after
operations begin, though I will not be involved in marketing the hotel. However, I do have
marketing experience which I would love to bring to the Visitors Bureau board.
