R��-ao��f-ass <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ORANGE COUNTY <br /> SHERIFF LINDY PENDERGRASS <br /> WHEREAS, Lindy Pendergrass has served the citizens of Orange County as Sheriff for <br /> 32 years; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Sheriff was elected by the voters of Orange County in 1982, 1986, <br /> 19905 1994, 19985 20025 2006, and 2010; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Sheriff Pendergrass joined the Chapel Hill Police Department in 1957; <br /> and, <br /> WHEREAS, Sheriff Pendergrass has served the people of Orange County in a law <br /> enforcement capacity for 57 years; and, <br /> WHEREAS, during Sheriff Pendergrass' tenure the number of sworn personnel in the <br /> department has grown from 20 to 100 and the capacity of the jail has <br /> expanded from 47 to 130 inmates; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Sheriff has promoted the importance of training by sending his staff to <br /> classes conducted by the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, the <br /> DEA, as well as other training and certifying agencies to prepare his staff for <br /> the challenges of law enforcement; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Sheriff Pendergrass has fostered a service-oriented approach to law <br /> enforcement that inspires trust and confidence in the general public, as well <br /> as collaborative relationships with other law enforcement entities. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> do hereby recognize Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass for his 32 years as Sheriff, <br /> serving the people of Orange County and wish him well as he embraces the <br /> benefits of citizenship outside public service. <br /> This the 1 St day of December 2014. <br /> Ba Jacobs, Chair <br /> Orange Co my Bo �d of ommissioners <br />
