ATTACHMENT 1 <br /> 4 <br /> C5570-3/95 <br /> LIBRARIAN <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs difficult professional work in planning and implementing library services such as <br /> reference or children's programs; does related work as required. <br /> Work is performed under general supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Serves as the Reference or Children's librarian; <br /> Develops and selects the children's or reference collection materials for the library; <br /> Plans for children's or reference services and makes provisions for special projects; <br /> Writes grant proposals, spends allocated money, and submits reports on expenditures; <br /> Manages annual budget for children's or reference program division; <br /> Develops and implements programs to include working with schools, child care centers, and <br /> organizations in the community; _ <br /> Performs readers' advisory to patrons on appropriate materials; <br /> Markets programs to appeal to adults, children and organizations in the community; <br /> Markets programs by creating flyers and news releases; <br /> Works general circulation desk assisting patrons, checking books in and out, and answering <br /> questions; <br /> Participates in professional organizations; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> Comprehensive knowledge of library operations; comprehensive knowledge of reader interest <br /> levels and books and authors relevant to assigned area; comprehensive knowledge of book <br /> classification; comprehensive knowledge of specific materials collection; ability to work <br /> effectively with children and adults; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; <br /> ability to plan effective programs; ability to develop and maintain an effective collection relevant <br /> to the assigned area. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Masters degree in library science <br /> and at least two years professional library experience in children's programs or reference services.. <br />
