3 <br /> 3. Community Social Services Technician <br /> The Personnel Department has completed a classification review of Community <br /> Social Services Assistant position in the Child Protective Services(CPS)Division of <br /> the Social Services Department. Social Services requested this review because the <br /> duties of the position have changed since it was first established in February 1993. <br /> This position is part of the CPS treatment team and provides in-home technical <br /> services to families and children who are in a crisis situation including clients with <br /> substance abuse. <br /> Key changes in the Community Social Services position include: <br /> - The primary focus of the position is not transportation of clients. It is on <br /> providing individual and group education in household management,parenting, <br /> budgeting,personal care,and housing and employment acquisition. <br /> The two other positions currently assigned to the Community Social Services <br /> Assistant class at Salary Grade 57 do focus on providing transportation or arranging <br /> transportation for Medicaid clients and maintaining the related records. This <br /> position functions at a higher level than these two positions due to the human <br /> relations skills that are required in providing education and training to families and <br /> children in crisis situations. Also,the position must be able to write detailed <br /> summary of services for case records and court reports as needed. <br /> The review indicates the need to establish a new class of Community Social Services <br /> Technician at Salary Grade 60 to recognize the duties and the responsibilities <br /> assigned. <br /> Upon approval of the new class,this one Community Social Services Assistant <br /> position at Salary Grade 57 will be reclassified to Community Social Services <br /> Technician at Salary Grade 60. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends the Board amend the Classification and Pay Plan by: <br /> Changing the tide of the class of Children's Librarian at Salary Grade 67 to Librarian <br /> still at Salary Grade 67, <br /> Changing the title of the class of Assistant to the Library Director to Library <br /> Assistant Director and changing the Salary Grade from grade 67 to grade 69 and <br /> Adding the class of Community Social Services Technician at Salary <br /> Grade 60. <br /> F:\LANA\ABS3-Cl-AWPD <br />
