ECONOMIC SELF SUFFICIENCY <br />Provide the infrastructure, policies, programs and funding necessary for <br />individuals to provide necessities for themselves and their dependents in Orange <br />County including shelter, food, clothing and medical care and preserve the safety <br />net function of County government by aiding those who find themselves without <br />basic sustenance and support in the midst of life circumstances. <br />INCOMEA" WEALTH <br />Improve income security for individuals and families classified <br />as poor and working poor so that individuals and families are <br />able to support themselves and those for whom they are <br />responsible. <br />e Develop a Countywide Economic Responsibility Policy and institute a standing <br />Orange County Economic Justice Action Committee as a mechanism to <br />monitor the County's compliance with the objectives of the Economic <br />Responsibility Policy'. This policy should address, among other things, the <br />allocation of County funding to balance the needs of affordable housing, <br />economic development, county infrastructure and a sustainable environment <br />to improve employment opportunities. <br />• Seek legislative authorization to implement a '"big box" livable wage <br />ordinance requiring businesses occupying a certain square footage to pay a <br />wage that makes it possible for Orange County residents to live and work in <br />the County and to provide health insurance benefits. <br />e Create a countywide job opportunities program for individuals limited by life <br />circumstances, cultivate relationships with employers to offer jobs to <br />individuals in the program. <br />® Create a temporary employment agency to provide benefits for trainees and <br />new workers while they gain permanent status and benefits. <br />........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... . ............. <br />ORANGE CouNTYSocw JusnrcE GOAL REPORT, <br />...........
